Piano Tutorial: Piano Man by Billy Joel

One of the best ways to learn to play piano for beginners are for instance easy and slow songs.

„Piano Man“ by Billy Joel is such a song.

It's a slightly different kind of piano tutorial, I hope you like it 🙂

In 2016 this great song was chosen as one of 25 songs that are aesthetically important for our culture and history.

By the way, did you know that I was also performing as a bar piano player? 🙂 That was such a fun and great time!

So here's the tutorial!

Hope you enjoy!

    Dear Thomas,

You asked for comments. FIrst thank you for spending time to prepare/create/upload this piano tutorial. My answer, I like the more standard approach to a tutorial more, as it compartmentalizes the tutorial more, which is easier to follow as one of your students, than the current piano tutorial.

    With kind regards,
    Ronald van Koutrik

  • I hope to be able to play this piece. I have been doing the free tutorials but I think this one is a bit advanced for me. Thank you for sharing your talent.

  • Josephine Lareza says:

What a lovely music. I hope I can do this one day and hopefully soon. Iam just a beginner, but it will be a dream to be able to play this piece.

  • James Dooley says:

I see you playing, but without any explanation. Am I missing something? Or, am I just supposed to try to follow your fingers?

  • Christine GOATER says:

Still too fast for absolute beginners. Needs to be in your tutorial style of "breaking it up" into smaller parts (your fantastic way of teaching for us beginners )

  • Nope, I’m not ready for this one. I’ll go back to easy songs. You play this beautifully.
Maybe one day for me. It will be a day for me.

    Brenda A.

    • Hi Brenda,
      thanks for your message.
The Easy Songs are actually a very good training to become better and then you will also manage this wonderful song here.

      Have a great day 🙂

    Hello Thomas,

I am learning from your Piano Komplete lessons and want to ask if it would be possible for you to attach a PDF of the notes to each song so it would be easier to follow and learn the song lessons.

    Ed Allocco

    • Hi Ed,
      thanks for your message.
Great that you join Piano Complete.
In this class I show you how to play piano without notes and music sheets. So I don`t have any notes for the easy songs.

      Have fun and take care

  • Hello Thomas, I love your lessons, I want to purchase a keyboard so I can learn, can I play most of the songs you teach on a keyboard with 61 keys, or do I absolutely need 76 keys?

    • Hello
thanks for your feedback. I really appreciate it.
Yes you can do my vidoes, classes and tutoirals with a keyboard with 61, too.

      Have fun

  • Tina Freund says:

Im thinking it would be easier to have the sheet music as well and work with both the video and sheet music together. Sometimes its just too fast and its difficult to rewind to that exact part that you missed. ?

  • Kim James says:

Is this paid course? It sounds like a very easy version. Is this all? No music or explanations?

    • Hi
      thanks for your message.
      This is a free tutorial.
In this video I show you an easy version of the song.

      Have a nice day

  • Val McGrath says:
